Binghamton Chosen to Host 2016 National Debate Tournament (NDT) Championship
(Binghamton, NY) – The 2015 National Debate Tournament (NDT) championship will begin in just a few weeks at the University of Iowa. 78 college debate teams will compete for the national title. Recently, the NDT Board of Trustees announced the selection of the 2016 competition site. The Speech & Debate program at Binghamton University (Binghamton, NY) was chosen to host the event which will take place March 31- April 4, 2016.
Binghamton University was selected as the tournament site for the quality of on-campus facilities, support from the university and local community, and the debate program’s tradition of supporting competitive debate and speech activities. Binghamton’s Director of Speech and Debate, Joe Leeson-Schatz, is known for hosting quality tournaments at the university. Leeson-Schatz’s decades of experience contributed to the Board’s decision to recognize Binghamton University as an ideal site for the 2016 national championship competition.
The National Debate Tournament is committed to encouraging the opportunity for quality debate for students of all institutions of higher education by maximizing the number and geographic representation of participating schools, encouraging the highest standards of debate excellence by maximizing the competitive quality of participating schools, and encouraging the highest standards of educational excellence by conducting a tournament consistent with the educational objectives of intercollegiate forensics competition.
