Trivia
The tournament was expanded to 52 teams to accomodate a pre-district qualifying process which had the winners of Ten Designated Tournaments and six or more teams (depending on duplicate winners) voted on to equal a pre-distrct at-large pool of sixteen. The system lasted for two years.
“A” and “B” designations were replaced by an allegedly less discriminating “X” and “O” for schools with multiple teams. This only lasted for one year.
